Jim Bradley, Chase Hanna, and Hannah Purcell Martin bring a heatwave of color in their own various styles. Bradley’s resin paintings can be fiery or as inviting as cool water on a hot day. Hanna’s Mandalas are intricate cut LED lit wall pieces that unfold into glowing blooms. Purcell Martin’s paintings are gems-like landscapes of clustered flowers and cells. Together these three artists bring waves of energy and electric color to the Homegrown Gallery.
Jim Bradley has been making art in Rhode Island since 2016. His luminous resin paintings can be found throughout New England and New York City. It is easy to get lost in the layers of resin and paint. When looking at his paintings one feels that moments of time have been preserved in glass: a boat forever anchored, captured light, night skies, and even a touch of nostalgia for 90s color and design. Chase Hanna is a man of details and discipline. Whether casting concrete for custom home pieces, tattooing, or painting his Mandalas, he brings an uncanny level of instinct for symmetry and design. For his Mandalas he uses a laser cutter but the first of these creations were hand cut with a jigsaw. Each dot —a trademark of his style in tattooing and art—is precision placed with repetition that is unnatural to human hands but often seen in nature's mathematical evolutions and the world of high tech. Hannah Purcell Martin began working with acrylic paints in 2011. The color and flow of her abstractions are inspired by the unseen world of bodies, cells, and growth. These worlds are imagined tiny landscapes of movement. Her jewel-like paintings evolved through a practice of meditation as painting and often call to mind tangles of flowers and branches or the neuron pathways of the brain.
