About Paper Organica
Artists Kate Aitchison, May Babcock and Lindsey Beal remind us of the living nature of paper. The trees and plants that were shredded, boiled, dried and pressed become new forms. At Homegrown Gallery view paper unlike paper; transformed to tell stories of history, environment and place.
Kate Aitchison splits her time between Rhode Island and Arizona. Her work depicts canyon scapes reminiscent of the places where she regularly leads rafting trips. Adventure is calling out from her artist made paper and silkscreen collages. Looking at these radiant wall pieces calls us to seek the wide open unknown. kateaitchisonart.weebly.com
In May Babcock’s words, “Collaboration between people, plants, and paper gives opportunities for deepened communication and healing in a world in crisis.” Without these words the paper still speaks of deep and meaningful connections and sensitivities to plant materials and the places where these materials were grown and harvested. maybabcock.com
Lindsey Beal’s work is ephemeral with deep roots. Working in photographic processes alongside book and paper making arts, her work digs into the histories of women’s lives and artifacts of documentation. Beal’s small Venus sculptures float and glow; the simple forms made from high-shrinkage flax paper are not to be missed. lindseybeal.com
